Découvrez le travail contemporain de Maryam Dastgerdi
My name is Maryam Vahid Dastgerdi. I was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1986. I have been interested in art since my early childhood. My mom was a great motivation and support for my artistic endeavor. She has mastered several creative skills - sewing, knitting, embroidery, weaving Persian carpet, etc - all by herself. I always admired her strong personality and delicate taste.
As a child, I spent hours and hours painting or making my story book with its pictures without feeling the time. At school, I was lucky to have very good art teachers who showed me different techniques and taught me a lot about crafts, painting and Persian calligraphy.
During and after my high school, I took several courses in art, including the drawing training offered by Isfahan University of Fine Arts, and Persian calligraphy offered by Isfahan calligraphers association.
Later, I became focused on my higher education and pursuit of my passion for mathematics. I came to Paris for the first time in 2016 in the middle of my PhD studies, where I was working with a great mathematician for a year. Then I returned to Iran and finished my dissertation. I came back to Paris as a postdoc researcher in 2019 while I was waiting for my scientific papers to be published so that I could defend my dissertation. In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic and lockdown, I obtained my PhD in Financial Mathematics.
It was in 2021 when I realized that I am still strongly drawn to art, and I found abstract art very appealing. I kept making more and more paintings and the further I went the more serious art became to me.
I held my first exhibition in Palaiseau, my current city of residence, from 1 October to 30 Nov, 2022. I had two other group exhibitions in Palaiseau and one in Carrousel du Louvre in 2023.
There is a permanent exhibition in my studio. My door is open to all! Would you like to visit and have a cup of tea with me? Just send me a message and we organize!
Looking forward to the future of this adventure!
